Joe Louis meditates in a temple
The Ta Sohm temple is a peaceful place to visit amongst the Ankgor temples. I got there early in the morning while the tourist traffic was very low. This allowed for some nice photo taking opportunities amid the ruins of the temple that dates back to the 12th Century. Particularly of note is a strangler fig tree that grows unrestricted around one of the outer gateways. I personally enjoyed the inner chambers that have entrances on four sides. The entrance ways don’t have doors and by staring through one, you can see down all the chambers, creating a sense of openness and access.
See what other blogs are saying about the Ta Sohm temple:
“Excavators left Ta Som in an advanced state of ruin. Although archeologists continue to clear debris and reassemble certain structures, Ta Som remains pleasantly disheveled. Ta Som reminds us that we can only borrow from the Earth for so long.
Not only have archeologists and excavators neglected Ta Som, but it also receives very little tourist traffic. As a result, exploring Ta Som can be a unique and peaceful experience for the adventurous traveler.”
